The GHS girls softball season is now in full swing with the official arrival of spring last week. After opening their 2025 campaign winning two-of-three on the road in week one, the Lady Bulldogs have gone 7-2 since, including a great showing in tournament play at Hope last weekend. The Greenwood ladies are currently 10-3 overall. They will travel to Russellville in conference play on Tuesday, then host Lavaca on Thursday before returning to league play at home against Siloam Springs on Friday.
Over the past two weeks the Lady Bulldogs earned wins over Van Buren, Harrison, Alma, and Farmington in 5A West conference play to start 4-0 in league play. But they dropped both of their non-conference games against Bentonville-West and Morrilton. Last Friday the GHS girls traveled to Hope for the DMAC tournament, beating the host Texarkana Lady Razorbacks in the opening round on Friday before sweeping both Monticello and DeWitt on Saturday.
Bentonville-West
Week two of the high school softball season began with a 5-3 loss on the road to the Lady Wolverines of Bentonville-West, evening Greenwood’s early record at 2-2. Freshman Makayla Bachert started in the circle for the visitors and pitched four innings, giving up five hits, four walks, and three earned runs. She was relieved in the fifth inning by junior Alyssa Lovell, who closed out the game, allowing six hits, one walk, and two earned runs over two innings.
The home team scored twice in the first inning and three times in the third to build a 5-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs plated two runs in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth. But opposition pitching held GHS bats in check over the last two frames to preserve the two-run victory. In fact, Greenwood mustered only four hits in the game, one each from Brilea Rofkahr, Daisy Parker, Lakyn Dawson, and Emily Creason. Both Parker and Dawson drove home a run with Rylee Floyd plating another.
Van Buren
On Tuesday, March 11th the Lady Bulldogs rallied in the middle innings to come from behind to defeat the Lady Pointers, 7-5, in the conference opener for both teams. Scoring once in the first and twice more in the second, Greenwood led 3-0 before the visitors played four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. But the GHS girls bounced back with three more runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, 6-4. Both teams scored solo runs in the fifth to account for the final score.
Three GHS hurlers toiled inside the circle, including Makayla Bachert (3.1 innings), Alyssa Lovell (3.1), and Sienna Wells (0.1). Overall, the trio allowed a dozen hits, gave two walks, but only one of Van Buren’s runs was earned. The Lady Bulldogs made two critical errors that allowed the Lady Pointers to score four cheap runs. Greenwood bats were active as well, whacking 11 hits, all singles, while three of those GHS hitters had multiple hits.
Brilea Rofkahr and Rylee Floyd had three hits each while fellow senior Emily Burton had two hits. Rofkahr had two runs batted in, Floyd had four RBIs, and Burton one. The next three hitters in the lineup also contributed with solo hits, including Daisy Parker, Lakyn Dawson, and Piper Pitts, the latter fresh from basketball. Emily Creason was hit by a pitch and scored a run while Victoria Griffith had a sacrifice bunt and scored a run. Emily Burton scored twice for Greenwood.
Harrison
Returning to conference play on Thursday of that same week, the Lady Bulldogs trekked northward to Crooked Creek to face the Harrison Lady Goblins, and the result was both satisfying and unusual. Greenwood starting pitcher Sienna Wells hurled three hitless, scoreless innings in a 16-0 mercy-rule GHS victory in which they had only six hits themselves, aided by three Harrison errors that led to seven unearned Greenwood runs. Wells issued a pair of walks and had seven strikeouts.
Greenwood scored four runs in the top of the first inning before exploding for 10 more tallies in the second. They added two more runs in the third frame before the game was called after three innings due to the sportsmanship rule. In the first inning, a one-out Harrison error was followed by a walk before Laykn Dawson unleased a line drive homerun to left field for a 3-0 GHS lead. Another run later scored on a ground out. Greenwood’s 10 runs in the second inning came on three hits, four walks, two batters hit-by-pitch, a fielder’s choice, and an error.
Five of Greenwood’s hits were singles with a lone double by Alyssa Lovell. The other hits came from Lakyn Dawson, Victoria Griffith, Piper Pitts, Ava Cranor, and Rylee Floyd. Dawson had three RBIs, while Griffith and Pitts had two each. Lovell added a run batted in as did Brilea Rofkahr, Saylor Hart, and Annie Been.
Morrilton
The following Monday, March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, the Lady Bulldogs stepped away from conference play to host the Lady Devil Dogs of Morrilton. Freshmen Sienna Wells and Makayla Bachert did the pitching duties for Greenwood, with Wells getting the start and going 4.1 innings. Together they limited the visitors to seven hits, but did issue five walks in a 4-3 Morrilton victory. Greenwood scored in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead before both teams plated two runs in the third. But it was Morrilton’s two runs in the top of the fifth that carried them to victory.
The Lady Bulldogs got a hit, a walk, and a hit batsman in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play and a line out to left field squashed the potential rally. Among Greenwood’s seven hits were two singles by Emmy Burton and solo hits by Brilea Rofkahr, Isabella Meyers, Daisy Parker, Lakyn Dawson, and Emily Creason. Dawson had two runs batted in.
Alma
The next day the Lady Airedales hosted the GHS girls in 5A West conference play, and it was a forgettable experience for the home team as Greenwood rolled to a 15-0 five-inning win. With Alyssa Lovell getting the start in the circle and Makayla Bachert backing her up, the pair held Alma to just one hit and no runs. Lovell went four frames to earn the win. Greenwood scored three times in the first and second innings, once in the third, twice in the fourth, and six times in the top of the fifth.
GHS batted banged out 14 hits against four Alma pitchers and took advantage of four errors, scoring four unearned runs among their total of 15. Emily Creason and Lakyn Dawson had three and two hits, respectively. Creason had a double, two singles, and five RBIs. Dawson drove home a pair of runs with her two hits. Others with solo knocks were Brilea Rofkahr, Emmy Burton, Daisy Parker, Emily Daggett, Saylor Hart, Piper Pitts, Miley Schwartz, Annie Been, and Rylee Floyd.
Farmington
The GHS bats had hardly cooled off two days later when they hosted the Lady Cardinals last Thursday, pounding out 10 more hits in a 13-3 mercy-rule victory. Makayla Bachert and Alyssa Lovell filled the circle for Greenwood with Bachert getting the start and laboring three innings. She allowed three hits and three runs, but only one earned before Lovell relieved her and pitched the final two frames. Trailing 1-0, Greenwood plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and three more in the third to take a 7-3 lead. Another run in the fourth and five in the bottom of the fifth helped the Lady Bulldogs to walk-it-off for their fourth conference win in as many tries.
The top hitters for Greenwood included Daisy Parker and Saylor Hart, both getting a pair of doubles and accounting for seven RBIs between them. Parker had five and Hart two. Rylee Floyd also had two hits, both singles. Brilea Rofkahr, Emmy Burton, Lakyn Dawson, Piper Pitts also had solo hits. Dawson, Pitts, and Isabella Meyers also drove home one run each.
Texarkana
With the beginning of spring break last weekend, the Lady Bulldogs rode their bus and hauled their equipment southward to the city of Hope, Arkansas for the annual DMAC tournament, facing the Lady Razorbacks of Texarkana in their opening game, winning 6-1 in five innings. Sienna Wells and Alyssa Lovell took care of business in the middle of the diamond, limiting the opposition to three hits and one run. Wells started and went three innings for the win. Greenwood scored twice in the second inning and four times in the fifth in the time-limited contest.
The Lady Bulldogs collected six hits, two walks, and took advantage of four Texarkana defensive miscues. None of Greenwood’s six runs were earned due to opposition errors. By contrast, the Lady Bulldogs were perfect in the field. At the plate, Annie Been had half of Greenwood’s hits with three singles and an RBI. Brilea Rofkahr added two singles and an RBI while Alyssa Lovell added a hit and RBI. Piper Pitts also had an RBI to round out the GHS offense.
Monticello
After winning their previous three games by a scoring margin of 34-4, the Lady Bulldogs had to rely on pitching and defense to defeat the Lady Billies of Monticello in their first game last Saturday, 2-1. Both starting hurlers went the distance in a classic pitching duel until the GHS girls walked off with a win in the bottom of the sixth inning. Greenwood’s Alyssa Lovell limited Monticello to one run on four hits. She issued no walks and threw 85 pitches, 57 of them strikes, stranding four baserunners.
While the GHS bats were held mostly in check by the Monticello starter, Saylor Hart managed to get two knocks, both singles, the last one in the sixth inning, driving in the winning run. Brilea Rofkahr scored that run and also drove home another in the first inning. Monticello scored its lone run in the second to tie the score at 1-1 until the decisive sixth inning. Also getting hits for Greenwood were Emmy Burton, Isabella Meyers, Daisy Parker, and Rylee Floyd. The GHS defense made just one error.
DeWitt
In their finale on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs bested the DeWitt Lady Dragons, 8-4, in seven innings to claim the tournament championship with a perfect 3-0 record. Two Lady Bulldogs – seniors Saylor Hart and Rylee Floyd – received a scholarship for their play. Saylor is the daughter of GHS Head Coach Donald Hart.
The Lady Bulldogs scored early and continued to add on later in the contest, never allowing the DeWitt girls to get into the game. Up 3-0 after their first at bat, the GHS ladies added a fourth run in the second, then three more in the fifth and one final tally in the seventh. DeWitt scored once in the first and three times in the bottom of the seventh. Greenwood out-hit the Lady Dragons 10-to-6. Makayla Bachert (5 innings) and Sienna Wells (2 innings) filled the circle for the winning team. They combined to limit the DeWitt girls to six hits and just two earned runs.
Daisy Parker, Piper Pitts, and Emily Creason had two hits each in the game with Creason getting a double and driving home a run. Pitts had two singles and two RBIs while Parker had a pair of singles and a run driven in. Brilea Rofkahr, Lakyn Dawson, Saylor Hart, and Rylee Floyd also had hits with Rofkahr and Hart picking up solo RBIs, along with Annie Been.
