The Lady Bulldog Basketball team's home winning streak came to an end Monday night at the hands of the first place Morrilton Devil Dogs. Morrilton just edged Greenwood 54-52 in the final seconds of the game.

The seesaw battle between the two teams started with Morrilton knocking down several three-point shots in the opening minutes of the game. Greenwood kept the game close in the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs surged in the second half tying the game at 21 with five minutes left in the quarter and take an eight point lead of 33-25 into the locker room.

At the start of the second half the Devil Dogs went on an 11 point tear, tying, then surpassing the Bulldogs. But a combination of Laura Davidson and Alyssa Duval would bring the score back even at 45 for the final quarter.

Greenwood never led in the last quarter but did manage to tie the game at 47, 50 and 52. With five seconds remaining on the clock a Morrilton player missed a crucial free throw, Greenwood rebounded but lost control of the ball and the Devil Dogs scored just before the buzzer.

"That's the way we wanted to play," Greenwood head coach Clay Reeves said. "We wanted to play up-tempo, and get up and down the floor. I thought we played well that way. They hit a few more shots in the second half, and that slowed us down. They played with a little more intensity in the second half. It took them getting the lead for us to match their intensity level. We never got going up and down the floor in the second half, and they got down the floor a lot quicker."

"They made one more play than we did," Reeves said. "Both teams had opportunities, but they took advantage of more of their opportunities than we did. We've got to learn from that as a team."

Bulldogs

The boys' team would keep thing close to the very end but never quite get a handle on the Devil Dogs. Greenwood was within four at the end of the first 13-17, nine at the end of the second 24-33, eleven at the end of the third 37-48, and 12 at the end of the game 52-64.

"They did a good job going inside, and then they hit their open shots outside," said Head Coach Derek Harrell. "We were a little out of sync their speed had a lot to do with it. We couldn't get to the basket like we wanted. We settled for jumpshots instead of getting to the rim."
