Greenwood High School head wrestling coach John Kincade knows his fledgling program remains a work in progress, but he is still happy with their accomplishments so far in their first season of competition. "I have been very pleased with the progress of our wrestlers," he said after the Bulldogs dropped both meets last week, including a 56-21 loss to Conway on Greenwood's home mat last Thursday.

But a loss to Russellville earlier in the week came on a technicality. The Bulldogs tied Russellville 42-42 in overall points, but lost the match because the Cyclones had the most falls in the competition. Each team won seven individual matches.
This past Saturday, February 2nd, the junior varsity team took part in the Bentonville JV Tournament. Teams from Bentonville, Rogers, Rogers (Heritage), Springdale, Springdale (Har-Ber), Fayetteville, Gentry, and Greenwood participated.

The following wrestlers from Greenwood placed in the tournament: at 106 lbs. Clay Watts finished 3rd; at 113 lbs. Devin Ibison placed 3rd; at 126 lbs. Matthew Jackson finished in 4th place; at 138 lbs. Landon Post earned 1st place points; at 152 Nicholas Gusdorf finished 3rd; at 152 lbs. Tyler Canipe placed 4th; at 160 lbs. Weston Sadler came in 2nd; at 195 lbs. Kyle Pierce placed 3rd; at 195 lbs. Gunnar White also placed 3rd; and at 285 lbs. Brian Pullen finished in 3rd place.
Other Greenwood wrestlers in the tournament were Marcus Bolin, Reid Carter, Michael Dover, Andrew McGill, Josh Moudy, Matthew Robbins, Bailey Rodgers, and BJ Shaffer.

Greenwood will travel to Rogers High School on Thursday, February 7th, to take on Rogers and Gentry. On Friday and Saturday, February 8-9, the Bulldogs will be wrestling at the Tournament of Champions in Russellville. Starting time is 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Greenwood will conclude its regular season with a home meet on Tuesday, February 12th with Van Buren, starting at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, February 16th, the Bulldogs will take part in the Big West Conference Tournament at Ft. Smith Northside High School. The conclusion of the season will be the State High School Wrestling Tournament at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, at the Stephens Center on Friday and Saturday, February 22-23.
