The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is holding its third annual benefit golf tournament this Saturday, November 7th, on the links at Vache Grasse Country Club in Greenwood. The four-man scramble will get underway with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
There are still open slots for area teams to enter, and they may do so by calling Kevin Barrett at 996-1718. Barrett is the head of the GHS volleyball booster club. Entrants can also contact head coach Jennifer Golden at Greenwood High School by calling 996-4141. The entry fee is $40 per player. All prizes will be awarded in cash, plus there exists the possibility of winning a new car from Hug Chevrolet in Charleston by making a hole-in-one. Some lucky player will also win the chance to make a hole-in-one for a $1,000,000 prize at the end of the tournament.
According to Coach Golden, proceeds from the benefit will go toward the costs of "shoes, socks, knee pads, attending camps, and other odds and ends as needed throughout the year." The coach also expressed her pleasure with the great weather forecast for the event, with sunny, dry conditions and a high temperature near 70 degrees. "We're excited about that," she said.
The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs just concluded their season last Saturday with a loss in the Class 5A state title match at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, falling to Siloam Springs for the fourth consecutive time. Greenwood finished the year with an excellent 26-9 overall record.
