After taking time off for the holidays, the GHS bowling team returned to action last week, taking on Southside High School at Midland Lanes in Fort Smith. And the Lady Bulldogs continued their fine season with another win, improving their record to 5-1.
Madison Zollicoffer scored a 196 and Kelsey Knox rolled a 174 to lead the GHS girls against Southside. The Greenwood boys showed improved play but lost by 34 pints. David Whattcott (212, 191), Talon Welch (195), and Walker Bedell (191) all had good games. Johnny Thammarata had a great baker game with 3 strikes.
Last Thursday Greenwood and Hackett High School competed in a boys only match, also at Bowling World in Fort Smith. Each team was allowed six bowlers, and each rolled two games apiece. The Bulldogs won both halves of the competition and improved their record to 3-4 on the season.
The GHS team of senior Walker Bedel (200, 195), junior Talon Welch (169, 178), and senior David Whatcott (198, 167) combined to score 1107 points besting Hackett (871) by 236 pins.
The team of sophomore Wesley Smith (147, 145), junior Carson Loyd 152, 171), and junior Johnny Thammarata (138, 155) combined to score 908 points, besting the Hornets (788) by 120 pins.
This past Tuesday Greenwood and Alma faced off at Bowling World, and both GHS teams won, though scores were not immediately available for the Lady Bulldogs, who won by a large margin, according to Head Coach Trey Holloway. Two squads of three GHS boys rolled two games each.
Walker Bedel (151, 164), Talon Welch (168, 140), and David Whatcott (168, 209) bowled an even 1,000 pins, besting Alma's 911. The team of Johnny Thammarata (152, 118), Carson Loyd (144, 110), and Wesley Smith (119, 154) combined for a score of 797, 62 pins better than the Airedales.
