The GHS tennis teams took seven of eight matches against Siloam Springs this past Monday afternoon on the courts at John Brown University.
Boys
Senior Kenny Sweeney competed hard in his singles match, but fell 5-8. Coach Hamilton observed that Kenny was “having difficulty keeping his ground strokes in play.” Sweeney will look to rebound today (August 21st) against Van Buren.
Sophomore Zackery Beshears easily won his singles match, 8-2, to notch his first win of the new season.
Senior Auston Shown and sophomore Jonathan Mitchell won their doubles match with ease, 8-1, as did Jack Gaston and Micah Belue, 8-1.
Girls
The Lady Bulldogs continued their dominant performance this season, sweeping the Lady Panthers.
Juniors Olivia Gaston and Abigail Woodring won their singles matches comfortably, 8-0. Seniors Leighton Haralson and Amber Alzufari won their doubles match by a score of 8-4.
Doubles partners Madi Pelt and Karli Fisher won handily 8-1, while Breanna Acosta and Katelyn Bailey won 6-0. Sarah Beshears and Abbie Rudder finished off the sweep for the Greenwood girls with a 6-1 win.
Extra Matches
Greenwood also played some extra matches against Siloam Spring to gain more experience. Jack Gaston and Micah Belue won two more sets, both by a score of 6-1. Auston Shown and Jonathan Mitchell both won singles matches. Shown won 6-3, while Mitchell won 6-0.
