The GHS tennis team took on Van Buren Tuesday night as they continued their 2018 campaign.
Boys
The Greenwood boys’ faced hard competition on Tuesday, but still competed very well.
Kenny Sweeney and Jonathan Mitchell both fell 4-8 in singles, but Auston Shown was able to get an 8-4 win. Jack Gaston, Zackary Beshears, and Micah Belue all lost in singles too, by a score of 4-8.
Sweeny and Shown paired up in doubles, but they could not come out with the win against a very good Van Buren team, 2-8. Mitchell and Beshears came up short in their doubles match along with Gaston and Belue.
The Greenwood boys will return to the tennis courts today (August 23rd) against Beebe and Little Rock Christian.
Girls
The girls’ Varsity/Jr. Varsity combined to win six of nine matches against the Pointers. Singles players, Olivia Gaston and Abigail Woodring, both won their matches 8-0 to continue a strong start to the season. Sarah Beshears fell 3-6 in JV singles.
Leighton Haralson and Amber Alzufari came up short by a score of 2-8, but Madie Pelt and Karli Fisher were there to pick them up with an 8-4 win. Abby Rudder and Beshears won their match in JV by a score of 8-3. Rudder played another doubles match as well, this time with Lily Hobbs, and they fell in a hard battle 6-8.
