The Greenwood girls and boys track and field teams participated in the annual Arkansas Air National Guard Cyclone Relays at Russellville High School on April 5th.
Competing against 16 other schools, including numerous Class 6A teams such as Bryant, Conway, Cabot, Van Buren, and Bentonville, the Bulldogs scored points with a pair of third place finishes while the GHS girls had two fifth place finishes.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Macie Cash and Taylor Koeth finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1600-meter run with times of 5:40.67 and 5:42.51. Koeth also placed fifth (12:07.88) in the 3200-meter run.
For the GHS boys, senior sprinter Max Vickery ran third (22.93 seconds) in the 200-meter dash and fifth (11.54 seconds) in the 100-meter dash.
Pole vaulter Christian Schaefer placed third, clearing the bar at 12’6”. Senior Nathaniel Gonzales ran sixth (10:10.18) in the 3200-meter run.
Overall, the Bulldogs scored 21 points and finished ninth in the meet, while the Lady Bulldogs scored 11 points, also finishing ninth overall. Bentonville won both the boys and girls competitions.
At the Airedale Relays on March 29th the GHS girls had five scoring performances for 31 total points and an eighth-place overall finish.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Macie Cash, who finished second (5:45.03) in the 1600-meter run, and Taylor Koeth who also placed second (12:30.68) in the 3200-meter run.
Cash ran fourth (2:42.79) in the 800-meter run while Koeth was fourth (5:50.31) in the 1600-meter run.
Greenwood senior Abby Cagle also placed fourth (14’7”) in the long jump.
For the GHS boys, Christian Schaefer won the pole vault event at 12’6” for first place points. Nathaniel Gonzales also ran first (4:45.92) in the 1600-meter run and second (10:25.64) in the 3200-meter run.
Max Vickery placed in two events, fourth (11.37) in the 100-meter dash and third (23.05) in the 200-meter event.
The Bulldogs also scored points in two relay events. The 4x400 meter team ran fourth (3:47.97) while the 4x800 team ran fifth (9:38.61).
The Bulldogs scored 50 points and finished sixth out of 16 teams.
