The Greenwood High School boys and girls soccer teams are sitting pretty with just a couple of weeks remaining in the regular season. Head coach Chris Young and his Bulldogs are 12-4-1 overall and carry a perfect 5-0 conference record into the home stretch. His Lady Bulldogs have an even better overall mark at 14-3-1, but have dropped two of their six league contests to post a 4-2 record.
Still, both squads are looking good with respect to making the post-season. The Class 5A state soccer tournament will be played May 10-12 at Burns Park in Little Rock, hosted by Central Arkansas Christian. The 5A state championship match will be played at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. All state soccer finals will be played there over a two day period, either May 18th or 19th.
In their most recent action, the GHS girls and boys swept two matches from Huntsville last Friday at Smith-Robinson Stadium. The Lady Bulldogs won handily, 6-1, while the GHS boys enjoyed a 3-0 shutout victory. This past Monday the Bulldogs were slated to resume a suspended game with Siloam Springs dating from April 3rd. The game was tied at 1-1 and was halted with 7:40 remaining. It was to be resumed from that point, and if there was no winner at the end of regulation time, penalty kicks were to be used to determine the outcome.
As for the remaining schedule, both Greenwood teams will be on the road for the rest of their matches. This week they play at 5A West foe Harrison on Thursday, then at Gentry next Monday in non-conference action. On Thursday, April 26 they will play at Siloam Springs, before going to Morrilton n the 30th and to Greenbrier on the third of May. All three of those matches are within the conference.
