The Greenwood High School golf teams both notched victories over Siloam Springs and Van Buren in the past two weeks, improving to 5-0 (boys) and 4-1 (girls) on the season. Head Coach Ronnie Williams and his players take on Fort Smith Southside on Thursday at Ben Geren golf course for 18 holes, then host Russellville next Monday for nine holes at Vache Grasse Country Club.
On Thursday, August 25th, the Bulldogs (306) defeated Siloam Springs (312) at Vache Grasse. Low rounds for Greenwood were Evan Griffith (72), Nathan Munday (77), Houston Sowell (78), and Bradley Brotherton (78). The match was played over 18 holes.
The Lady Bulldogs (274) also beat Siloam Springs (292) with junior Sydnie Gamble leading the way with a low round of 72. Freshmen Jordyn Lane (98) and Ella Austin (106) accounted for the other scoring.
This past Tuesday the Greenwood boys (153) defeated Van Buren (165), also at Vache Grasse Country Club. The match covered nine holes, and Wyatt Blevins and Evan Griffith shared the GHS leader board, both firing a team low 37. Houston Sowell (38), Bradley Brotherton (41), and Nathan Munday (41) weren't far behind.
The Greenwood girls (136) topped Van Buren (156) as well. Scores for the Lady Bulldogs were Sydnie Gamble (36), Ella Austin (48), and Jordyn Lane (52).
Gamble, who was the state's 6A medalist as a freshman and finished second last fall as a sophomore, will be traveling to California on September 13th to take part in the Nature Valley First Tee Open played at the famous Pebble Beach course, which has hosted five U.S. Open championships.
