The Greenwood High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs hosted Dover and Springdale high schools in a nine-hole match this past Tuesday afternoon at Vache Grasse Country Club. Greenwood is coached by Ronnie Sockey, filling in for Head Coach Ronnie Williams, who remains in Texas while getting treatment for a recurring bout of cancer.
According to Sockey, the Bulldogs (150) handily defeated Dover (201) and Springdale (211), while the Lady Bulldogs took care of the Dover girls, 130-161.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Sydnie Gamble fired a team best 39, followed by Jordan Lane’s 39, J.J. Mohetau’s 49, and Ella Austin’s 51.
For the GHS boys, Nathan Mundy carded a team best 35, followed by Evan Griffith (36), Houston Sowell (40), Bradley Brotherton (40), and Brady Fein (41).
Last week Greenwood hosted Springdale Har-Ber and Alma, winning both matches. The Bulldogs won over Har-Ber in a playoff. Evan Griffith and Nathan Munday defeated the top two players from Springdale on the third hole to win the match.
The top five boys scores against Har-Ber included Evan Griffith with a nine-hole total of 30, a team record. Nathan Munday carded a 35, Houston Sowell shot a 38, Bradley Brotherton had a 44, and Brady Fein finished the course with a 45.
Against the Alma Airedales the Bulldogs were led by Munday (35), followed by Griffith (36), Sowell (36), Brotherton (42), and Fein (41).
The GHS girls won both matches over Har-Ber and Alma. Against Springdale the Lady Bulldogs were led by Sydnie Gamble with a nine-hole total of 36 strokes. Jordyn Lane shot a 44, Ella Austin shot a 47, and Jaelee Mohetau carded a 55.
Against Alma the Lady Bulldogs were led by Gamble (39), Austin (47), Mohetau (48), and Lane (53).
Greenwood will face Siloam Springs on Thursday at Ben Geren course in Fort Smith and will travel to Russellville Country Club next Tuesday to do battle with the Cyclones and Lady Cyclones. The next home match for Greenwood will be on Thursday, August 31st, against Fort Smith Southside.
