GHS Golf Teams Keep Rolling On The Links

The Greenwood High School golf girls and boys golf teams continue to pile up the wins this season for interim head coach Ronnie Sockey, filling in for Ronnie Williams, who is battling cancer. Williams hopes to resume his coaching duties by the end of the month in time for the post-season.

Last Thursday Greenwood split with the Southside Mavericks and Lady Mavericks at Fort Smith’s Ben Geren course. The Bulldogs won by 35 strokes (151-186) while the GHS ladies lost by seven shots (121-128).

For the GHS boys, senior Nathan Munday continued his fine season with a team-best 35 over nine holes. Junior Evan Griffith fired a 37, senior Houston Sowell at 38, and junior Bradley Brotherton a 41 to round out the scoring.

Freshman Brady Fein (42), sophomore Landon Tuck (43), and freshman Hayden Weaver (49) also played, but did not figure in the results.

For the Greenwood girls, senior Sydnie Gamble carded a team-low 40, followed by sophomores Jordyn Lane (43) and Ella Austin (45). Jaelee Mahetau shot a 55 but did not figure in the final team tally.

On September 5th both GHS teams played at home at Vache Grasse Country Club, hosting Van Buren, winning both 9-hole matches.

For the GHS ladies, Sydnie Gamble shot a team-low 37 to lead the scoring, while Ella Austin (42) and Jordyn Lane (46) rounded out the team total of 125. Jaelee Mahetau shot a 50 and Erin Gilbert a 52, but did not figure in the team scoring.

For the Bulldogs, Griffith led the way with a team-best 35. Sowell fired a 36, followed by senior Munday (37), Brotherton (38), and freshman Brady Fein (38), defeating the Pointers 146 to 176.

The Bulldogs’ junior varsity team also played, led by senior Chris Pierce (39), followed by Haydon Weaver (40), sophomore Cameron Adams (42), Landon Tuck (43), senior Gannon Keddie (44), senior Trey Keddie (46), senior Will Pickler (47), and sophomore Nolan Brasher (49).

On August 31 the GHS girls and boys defeated Fort Smith Southside in a 9-hole match at Vache Grasse Country Club. The Bulldogs topped the Mavericks 156-175, while the Lady Bulldogs won 128-136.

Nathan Munday led the GHS boys with a 34. Evan Griffith carded a 38, while Bradley Brotherton, Brady Fein, and Houston Sowell all shot a 42.

For the Greenwood girls, Sydnie Gamble shot a 37, Jordyn Lane a 42, Ella Austin a 49, and J.J. Mahetau a 52.

On August 29th Greenwood had another 18-hole match at Russellville, winning both contests.

For the Bullodgs, Munday carded a team-best 74, followed by Griffith (76), Brotherton (81), Fein (82), and Sowell (86).

For the Lady Bulldogs, Gamble fired an outstanding one-under-par 71 to lead the team, followed by Lane (92), Mohetau (96), and Austin (99).

On August 24th the GHS girls and boys faced Siloam Springs and Bentonville West in an 18-hole match at Fort Smith’s Ben Geren course.

The Bulldogs (306) defeated Bentonville West (320) and Siloam Springs (344).

The Lady Bulldogs (271) easily defeated Bentonville West (372), but lost by three strokes to Siloam Springs (268). Sydnie Gamble shot a 78 to lead the team, while Jordyn Lane fired a 95 and Jaelee Mahetau carded a 98.

Evan Griffith lead the GHS boys with a team-low round of 70. Nathan Munday finished with a 77, while Bradley Brotherton shot a 78 and Brady Fein came in at 81.
