The Bulldogs continued their recent impressive surge this past Tuesday night at Fort Smith Southside, leading throughout the game and winning 63-56 on the road. Evan Lensing was on fire in the first quarter, sinking five three-pointers and helping Greenwood build 22-14 lead over the Rebels after eight minutes. The Bulldogs led 38-34 at the half and 49-41 after three quarters. The win improved the Bulldogs’ league mark to 5-4.
Clark led the way against the Rebels with 19 points. Lensing finished with 17, while Drew Caple added 12 points and Colton McEvoy contributed 11 points. “I thought the big quarter for us was the second,” said Coach Martin. “We only hit two field goals, but we were able to hit some free throws. Most of the night we had a six to eight point lead.
The Lady Bulldogs lost at Fort Smith Southside in overtime, 55-47. Greenwood had beaten the Lady Rebels earlier this season. The loss dropped the GHS girls below the .500 mark in conference play at 4-5.
Despite building a quick 10-2 lead, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t maintain their advantage. Southside rallied and actually led 14-12 after eight minutes, and 24-21 at the half. Increasing that lead to 36-29 after three quarters, the Lady Rebels held on for dear life as Greenwood rallied in the final period to tie the game at 45-all at the end of regulation.
Megan Hartness scored the tying basket on a layup with less than five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. But the Lady Bulldogs went cold offensively in the overtime period, scoring only two points.
Haleigh Henson led the scoring for the GHS girls with 12 points. Sammy Richards added 11, while Hartness had nine, Lundon Williams eight, and Allie Barnes contributed six points. “We got the same shots tonight that we always get - some of them went in and some of them didn’t go in,” said Coach Reeves after the game. “I’m proud of how hard we played. We gave it everything we had. We did everything we could do to win this game.
