Last weekend the GHS wrestling team finished 8th in the state tournament held in Little Rock, but placed second among all 6A wrestling schools in the state, trailing only Searcy. Prior to competing at state, the Bulldogs hosted the Big West Conference meet on February 13-14 to earn the right to qualify for the next level.
The Bulldogs finished in 4th place behind three Class 7A schools. The final scores were as follows: Rogers Heritage: 182.5, Rogers HS: 172.5, Springdale Har-Ber: 166, and then Greenwood with128 points.
The following wrestlers placed in the tournament: (126 lbs.) Clay Watts – 4th; (132 lbs.) Caleb Erskine – 2nd; (145 lbs.) Taylor Compton – 1st (also named Outstanding Wrestler); (160 lbs.) Bryce Allen – 3rd; (170 lbs.) Kenny Wood – 4th; (182 lbs.) Donald Faulkenberry – 4th; (195 lbs.) Drew Dundee – 3rd; and Gunnar White (220 lbs.) Gunnar White – 4th.
The state wrestling event was held last weekend at the Jack Stephens Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The top 10 team scores were Rogers: 203.5, Heritage: 194, Har-Ber: 187, Cabot: 146, Bentonville: 143.5, Searcy: 139, 7) Catholic: 138.5, and Greenwood: 134; Conway: 105 – 10), and Little Rock Central: 104.5.
The Bulldogs had several team members rack up points in the post-season. These were the guys who placed in the state tournament: (120 lbs.) Dustin Williams, 3rd Place (3-time State; (132 lbs.) Caleb Erskine: 2nd Place; (145 lbs.) Taylor Compton, 1st Place (3-time State Champion); (195 lbs.) Drew Dundee – 6th Place; and (285 lbs.) Jon Womack (9th).
According to Head Coach Kincade, the Bulldogs have responded to the call well over the past three years. “It was a very enjoyable year! Thank you very much for your support. I would like to say thank you for all of the people who donated items throughout the district and the great support from our administration. It was a huge success.
